Just show up and bring friends and stories to express gratitude to Nick, and get to know Kieawnie as she embarks on this new journey with us!
On October 15, 2024, the Marin Interfaith Council transferred fiscal sponsorship of The Street Chaplaincy to First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael (FPCSR). This exciting new partnership is the dawn of The Street Chaplaincy’s next iteration of its mission to “bring compassionate spiritual care to unsheltered and temporarily sheltered persons in Marin County and to build community between homeless persons and non-homeless faith communities and other organizations.”
FPCSR intends to encourage the expansion of the mission to the entire county through future partnerships with other faith communities in Marin. The need is great and The Street Chaplaincy's programs will be supported and expanded to address the needs of the unsheltered population of Marin County. While Tuesday Night Wellness Dinners, the pre-Thanksgiving dinner/service, the Memorial Service, and other core ministries of The Street Chaplaincy that have taken place at FPCSR will continue uninterrupted, other positive changes besides fiscal sponsorship are in process, and fund-raising for The Street Chaplaincy is already underway led by a new Steering Committee of members of FPCSR and a diverse group of faith and community leaders.
Nick Morris, who has been The Street Chaplaincy’s Executive Director since 2018, has concluded his service in that role. Please join us as we celebrate and thank Nick at the Tuesday Night Wellness Dinner on October 29, starting at 5 pm, which will take place in Canoles Hall at First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael, 1510 Fifth Ave, San Rafael, Corner of E, 5th and Mission. Entrance for the dinner is off of Mission Street.
On October 29, you can also meet Kieawnie Clar, who will be the Interim Executive Director and will assist the Steering Committee in shepherding The Street Chaplaincy through this transition. She is part of the pastoral team at Hamilton Community Church of the Nazarene, a seminary student, and has years of experience working for various nonprofits and providing direct service to our unsheltered siblings. Click here to read her bio.
The vision for The Street Chaplaincy is to serve unsheltered and temporarily sheltered persons throughout all of Marin County as a multi-faith collaborative focused on caring and spiritual counseling. While First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael now serves as fiscal sponsor, Kieawnie and the multi-faith Steering Committee will be responsible for the vision, strategies, daily operations, and fiscal vitality of The Street Chaplaincy with the goal for it to become a freestanding nonprofit with leadership from throughout Marin County.
We invite you to continue to support The Street Chaplaincy through your financial gifts, volunteering at Tuesday Night Wellness Dinners, attending events, and your prayers as this beloved ministry continues to build relationships with and care for the most vulnerable members of our community.
